the calgary community safety guide

What the police numbers say about any community

Look up a community and see police-reported break-ins, vehicle crime, violence and disorder calls over the last 12 months, per 1,000 residents, next to every other Calgary community.

What the numbers can't tell you

  • Drive the street at 10 at night and again at 8 on a Saturday morning. A count can't show you either.
  • Ask whether the community association runs a watch program or a social media group, and read the last few months of posts.
  • Vehicle crime clusters where cars sit on the street. A home with a garage and parking pad changes that number for you.
  • Busy commercial strips, LRT stations and nightlife pull the counts up in some communities, even on quiet residential streets nearby.
